Modern Foreign Languages at Garland

Statement of Curriculum Intent for French

At Garland Junior School, when teaching French, our intent is:

1. For all children to develop positive attitudes towards other language and cultures.

2. To deliver stimulating lessons which build confidence and promote the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

3. That by the end  of our children’s primary education, they have acquired an understanding of both spoken and written French and the confidence to speak in French with others.

Each week children participate in timetabled French lessons, an example of how we build on our French learning can be seen below.

On Leaving Garland

Children will have developed a ‘have a go’ attitude confident to explore another language and take risks in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, enabling them to become resilient learners.  They will have built on their speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar skills.
These skills not only lay the foundations for future language learning but also foster a curiosity of other cultures.
