At Garland Junior School, our shared vision for all children is: 'Believe in Yourself'. We promote the idea that everyone can be successful and achieve whatever they wish. Our inclusive approach centres on the core values of determination, respect and teamwork.

For the children in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, this high expectation and belief is key. As a fully inclusive school, we wish to see all children reach their potential, regardless of their background. At Garland, we strive to support all children throughout the school and adapt our teaching to help all children flourish. Through the use of the Pupil Premium funding we strive to 'level the playing field' by removing barriers to learning and allowing all children to achieve success. The funding is used in conjunction with high quality teaching,an engaging curriculum and therapeutic behaviour management techniques that aim to meet the needs of every child.

Children are eligible for Pupil Premium funding if families currently recieve free school meals, or have done so in the past 6 years. This money, which comes directly into school, is used in many different ways to ensure these children make good progress throughout their time in education.

Your child may be eligible for free school meals – and accordingly pupil premium – if you receive any of the following benefits:

• Income support
• Income-based jobseekers’ allowance
• Income-related employment and support allowance
• Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guarantee element of state pension credit
• Child tax credit, provided that you are not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of £16,190 or less
• Universal credit

There are free places available for children and young people eligible for free school meals. This opportunity is provided as part of the government's expanded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme being delivered across West Berkshire. Children, aged 5 to 16, will be able to access 16 days of sessions throughout the major holidays, at no cost to you. The sessions will include a variety of fun activities, including sports, music, arts and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills, alongside a nutritious meal each day.
