I am passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for all the children at Garland. I have some understanding of the finance and budget constraints placed on schools and a good understanding of data analysis. Having responsibility for assessment and pupil premium across the school means I will be aware of where the need is and how to direct resources to make the maximum impact.

Having had one child complete their time at Garland and with a son currently in year 5, I wanted to join the team of Governors to help support the school and its staff.  As we all get back on our feet after two very challenging years, I feel it's important to pull together as a community so that the children have positive experiences again in school.

I am a senior manager at the higher education ombudsman (OIAHE), with specialisms in data protection, discrimination legislation, and complaints and grievance procedures.  I also run the Burghfield Community Jigsaw Library.

My name is Chani Morris and I have a son in both Mrs Blands and Garlands. I currently work as an Assistant principal in a secondary school in Bracknell with responsibility for Special Educational Needs and behaviour support. I am a qualified SENCo, SpLD teacher and I oversee our Autism Resource. I was interested in becoming a governor to give something back to the school and as I have no skills that would benefit the PTA, governance was where I felt I might be of some use.

Amit Desai

Amit is a parent governor. His term of office runs from 8/2/23 - 7/2/27.

Hi, I'm Amit and I work as a Radiation Protection Adviser in the defence sector. I have one son who is currently in Year 5 at Garland Junior School as well as another who was educated at the school before moving up to the Willink. I have always felt that learning is exceptionally important, that every child deserves the best possible education. A school can only perform at its potential when the Senior Leadership is provided with strategic guidance and also held to account; the board of governors provide this function and I hope to support Garland in achieving its aims during my tenure.

Vicky Collins

Vicky Collins

Vicky is a co-opted governor who was appointed by the governing board. Her term of office runs from 24/5/23 - 23/5/27.

I have two children, one at Garland Junior School and one at The Willink. I've witnessed the continual improvement of Garland Junior School in recent years in terms of facilities and the curriculum. I have been happy with the arrangements the school has in place to make transitions between primary, junior and secondary school painless and welcoming. In addition, the staff showed a genuine commitment to maintaining a positive atmosphere and delivering on the curriculum during the challenges of COVID-19. When the co-opted position arose, I saw this as an opportunity to contribute to the community we live by supporting the goal of successful learning outcomes for all Garland pupils.

My professional background is in Higher Education as a teacher and leader of educational programmes. I have played integral roles in projects on wellbeing in the curriculum, online learning, and the academic engagement of students. My specialism is English as an additional language and intercultural communication, which I believe could benefit the increasing diversity of the Garland school population.  I hope that I can bring my experience of quality assurance, and team leadership to the Garland governing board, staff and pupils.
